How To Achieve a Very Thin Floor / Wall Repair

exterior of building needing repair

SURFACE PREPARATION

If floor repairs are to be successful, it is extremely important to ensure the surface is completely sound.  Remove any surface dust and/or any loose/delaminating material.  It is also extremely advisable to remove any paint from the area too, even if appears stuck.  Remember, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link!

If you would like help on surface preparation, please see our guide – Why Correct Surface Preparation is so Important.

WET SURFACES

If the surface is wet, establish whether it is simply surface water or whether it is rising damp from underneath.  It is always best to dry the surface which will give you a far wider variety of products to use such as Cretex EP, Cretex PU or Easipatch.  However, if you cannot get the surface dry, then you need a water based repair, such as Cretex Rapid

POURABLE REPAIRS

If you would like a very runny material to pour onto the floor then Easipatch is your answer.  It is not self levelling so will need troweling or squeegeeing across the surface.  Easipatch is ideal for spalling concrete or where you have an array of divets that you would like to smooth out.  There is absolutely no minimum thickness and the product will cure very fast.  In fact, at 20⁰C, Easipatch will reach the strength of an industrial power floated floor (40N/mm) in only 2 hours!!

TROWELLABLE REPAIRS

Cretex EP, Cretex PU and Cretex Rapid are all trowellable repairs and are excellent where very thin repairs are required, particularly on step edges and on ramps where the product needs to have a ‘bit of body’ in order to hold in place.

Cretex EP is actually our strongest and most popular product.  With a 1:1 mix, Cretex EP can therefore be mixed easily and accurately in very small quantities and can save a huge amount of wasted (mixed) material.

Cretex PU is actually a 3 part mix – Part A and B of resin and then with a bag of aggregate/filler.  The benefit of this product is that it can be mixed as runny or as thick as you wish simply by adding more or less of the aggregate into the resin.

Cretex Rapid is a polymer and a powder and this can again be mixed runny and thick.  Another benefit of Cretex Rapid, is that it is both fast curing and can be applied onto a damp surface.

WALL / VERTICAL REPAIRS

Cretex LM is a lightweight mortar and is excellent for both vertical and overhead repairs.  Again, this product can be mixed to achieve both a thick and thin consistency, depending upon the type and thickness of repair required.
