Thorough substrate preparation is essential.
The surface must be clean, dry and free from dirt, grease and other contamination. New concrete should be left for at least 3 months before painting, and a moisture check should be carried out to ensure this lies within acceptable limits. Hard concrete or granolithic surfaces should be treated with Polycote Etch IT to improve adhesion, and any surface grease or contamination chemically removed using Polycote Degrease IT. These treatments must be thoroughly rinsed off and the surface allowed to dry before painting. Pits and holes may be filled using Polycote Cretex products. Please refer to relevant Data Sheets.
Stir very thoroughly before use to ensure full dispersion of solids throughout the mix. Mechanical mixing is advised.
Apply by roller or brush. If the area has not previously been treated, thin the first coat with 10% White Spirit to improve penetration and adhesion working well into the surface. Apply full second coat. On previously sealed floors apply two coats. On previously painted surfaces one coat may provide adequate coverage.
Avoid applying too thickly.
Do not cover at a rate less than 30m2 per 5L unit. Applying polyurethane paint too thickly can prevent curing.
Product QuestionsI have a garage that I store old vintage cars in. Will this product be okay for sealing the floor?Question by: Tom Newman on 4 Jun 2015 09:26:00Tom,
It would depend on if the cars will be used often or its its solely for storage.
This is classed as a single pack coating where the solvent has to escape through the coating in order to dry. This leaves you a micro-porous finish.
If you are driving hot car tyres onto this coating then as the vehicle is parked and the tyres cool down the plasticiser will travel into the coating and when you move the car this may take the paint with it.
The best options would be a twin-pack epoxy which cures chemically and gives you a impervious finish and will far outlast PB Floor Paint.
